ituated
on the very first slopes overlooking the town of Gaillac where the Romans
and then the Benedictine monks of Saint Michael’s Abbey (X century)
already grew vines, the Domaine de Terrisses occupies the historical and geographical
heart of the Gaillac wine region. As soon as you leave the lower plain, you
head towards the winery in the coomb which is overlooked by the vine-covered
slopes looking south-west.
• The clay-limestone soils of the premières côtes and the warm Mediterranean climate is softened by Atlantic influence.
• Domaine des Terrisses comprises 88 acres of
traditional red and white grape varieties. Seven generations of winemakers
at one with their terroir and proud of their heritage have brought back these
old varieties (80% of our vineyards are made up of Lenc de l’El, Mauzac,
Braucol and Duras) and highlighted their qualities, through patient observation
and selection of parcels and the use of traditional winemaking techniques
and new technology to guarantee the end result.
• We are a far cry from a large “winery”, and use only gentle winemaking techniques.
• Thanks to the care and attention we bring them, we produce individual wines with typical and well-bred character, and intense aromatic expression.
• The Terrisses range is a lovely way to discover
the true nature of Gaillac wines
.
• The Terre Originelle range is made up of very fine, modern wines
made from ancestral grape varieties, with a touch of artistry.
• Our seal is the sign of a great wine in a
league with the very best the appellation can offer.
“For generations, the Cazottes family have been farming their
vines on the clay-limestone soils of the hills around Gaillac. It’s
easy to understand the consistent quality of their produce…”
- Hachette wine guide
• This is a naturally
fermented, expressive sparkling wine. It is the natural sugars of the Len
de l’El and Mauzac varieties which enable the wine to fizz in the
glass. These are fruity, refreshing and elegant wines, with great finesse.
Best drunk at 7 or 8°C. The brut version makes a good aperitif.
