VIGNOBLE DES VERDOTS

David Fourtout

History

The Fourtout family, originally from Saint-Emilion has dedicated itself to wine for four generations. In his book published in 1903, Edouard Feret made reference to the estate, known then as “Verdeau”, which already appeared on the oldest maps of the Perigord region

The estate

Located south of Bergerac on slopes and plateau the estate is based on a 35 ha area. It produces Monbazillac, Côtes de Bergerac Red, Bergerac Red, Bergerac dry white, Bergerac Rosé et Côtes de Bergerac sweet.

  • 35 ha - 200 000 bottles
  • 50% Red (Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 38% White (Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc, Sauvignon gris, Muscadelle)
  • 12% Rosé (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon)

The vineyard

The work on the vineyard is done using “lutte raisonnée”- “intelligent fighting”. David Fourtout continues the vineyard restructuration and develops the plantation of the most interesting parcels.

The terroir

  • sandy-silty clay over Fronsac sandstone
  • chalky clay on an undulating limestone
  • silty stand from the ferriferous plateau
  • silty-gravelly clay from slopes in Castillon limestone

The climate

Oceanic weather with high and constant temperatures over the vegetative period of the vines.

The cellar

The new fermentation hall by gravity is equipped with frustroconical vats with temperature control. The maturation and ageing of the wines are done in a cellar hewn from the rock and crossed by the Verdots underground stream. The 300 sq. Metres reception hall allows visitors to appreciate our Clos des Verdots, Château les Tours des Verdots and the Grands Vins ranges of wines.
