Traditionally devoted to several farming activities, breeding, berries and grapes for the coop, the estate in the seventies began specializing only in vine-growing and has done the wine-making, ageing, bottling and commercialisation since 1985.
Year after year the estate grew as the result of the specialization in vine-growing to reach about 10 ha in 2000. In 2004, it grew again with the acquisition of Domaine de Nays-Labassère, a superb and old 7 ha vineyard located in the Chapelle de Rousse centre.
For some years the vineyard has been engaged in Organic Farming (Agriculture Biologique) under the Qualité France certification.
The vineyards are situated on slopes between 250 and 400m in altitude. The hillsides at times are very steep and planted in terraces (about 8 ha). The silt-clay soils lie on the typical Jurançon pudding-stone conglomerate rock formation and are studded with pebbles and sandy gravel. In spring they are cultivated between rows and between vines to benefit from the new warmth and to avoid compacting the soil and encourage deep rooting.
Jurançon vineyard is situated in altitude. The very high difference of temperatures between night and day optimizes the maturation of the grapes; also the vineyard benefits from the double influence of the Pyrenees’ mountains that are at 25 km, and of the Atlantic Ocean at 100 km which moderate the temperatures.
The cellar is equipped with stainless vats for the fruity wines as well as a barrels and tuns winery for the cuvees. This equipment is traditional and simple. Indeed our very hard work in the vineyard contributes to the production of wines that don’t require too much interventions in the cellar.
