Domaine Berthoumieu

Didier Barré

History

Would Virgile Dutour, the forefather of the estate, imagine in the 1850’s that five generations later his descendant Didier Barré, still defends, like his ancestors, the Gascony banner !

The estate

Domaine Berthoumieu is located in the heart of the land of Louis XIV ‘s famous musketeer. Here, in the d’Artagnan also know as “Charles de Batz” land, the Barré family produces MADIRAN for the red wine and PACHERENC du VIC BIHL for the white wine.

  • 26 ha - 160 000 bottles
  • 85% Red (Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinenc).
  • 15% White (Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Petit Courbu).

The vineyard

It’s managed in a “reasoned” and qualitative way. Reasoned with the Tonyx ‘s method for over more than a decade. His principle: to bring in natural “oligo-elements” so that the vegetal protective defences are then strengthened. The vine better resists to diseases and different aggressions. Other treatments are then limited. Qualitative through various vineyard’s practices like the thinning out of the leaves to get the best maturation possible, green harvest to limit the yields.

The terroir

Gravel-clay and gravel-silt clay soils.

The climate

Oceanic weather softened by the mountains barriers of the Pyrenees Chain.

The cellar

Some chays are equipped with concrete tanks with alimentary coating which permit the best sanitary protection of the juices. The barrels of the underground chay are burgundy style where the wines are raised with care and passion before bottling.
